Modern Red Leather Bird Style Chaise
The designer has symbolized the dream to fly like a bird through
paradise with this fantasy-rich seating concept.
Pieter van Velzen, whom this design was originally conceived by, sees himself
not as a designer but as the inventor of completely new creations: the basic idea
is a method of forming and stretching a membrane so that it can be used as
self-supporting seating for this chair. The seating is formed by a roll-around
front anchor and is held taut by a single anchor point at the back. This
provides a unique sitting experience, both pleasant and enduring. The amount of
material used for the membrane application has been greatly reduced, giving it
an almost completely floating form, like a flower pushing up through the earth.
